Cleveland Pops Orchestra

Live at the Pops

Carl Topilow and his Cleveland Pops Orchestra have been charming audiences for al most a decade, as this self-produced collection of live performances snazzily confirms. Show and movie music, jazz, swing and a host of other styles receive energetic and suave treatment. Topilow does double duty by conducting and playing clarinet (usually a red one, as Pops audiences know). My favorites here are the "Flower Drum Song" medley, "Roumanian Horra and Bulgar" (with violinist Steven Greenman and clarinetist Topilow), and Paul Ferguson's witty arrangements of music from "The Drew Carey Show," but you'll enjoy it all.
